Bentley & Skinner buy and sell antique and second-hand jewellery and silver in addition to restoring, manufacturing and distributing bespoke jewellery on a small scale.

At Bentley & Skinner, we understand the importance of sustainable development for the protection of the environment, people, communities (local and global) and the marketplace. We recognise our responsibility to ensure the minimal environmental impact of our activities, products and services.

As an SME that restores, manufactures and distributes jewellery, we have identified that we have a relatively insignificant impact on the environment or society because of the small-scale of the number of items produced due to the high-value of materials involved. However, we are committed to continually improving our environmental management to enhance our environmental and social performance.

It is Bentley & Skinner’s strategy to continue to minimise its environmental impact by:

• Reducing waste material produced within the company;
• Using suppliers who can provide sustainably sourced or recycled materials;
• Reducing the use of materials, supplies and energy;
• Utilising renewable or recyclable materials and components;
• Adhering to the Codes of Practice / Conduct set out by the National Association of Jewellers, The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers and The British Antique Dealers’ Association.

In order to reduce the social impact of the restoration, manufacture and distribution of jewellery, Bentley & Skinner:

• Support the commitment and work carried out by The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES);
• Refrain from the trade of ivory, coral and tortoiseshell and only work with antiques that contain these items if we are certain of the age;
• Only buy primary sourced diamonds from suppliers who can prove that their stones come from conflict-free areas as stated in the Kimberley Process;
• Remain mindful of the working practices and environmental and social policy of our suppliers;
• Subscribe to the neighbourhood alliance, Heart of London;
• Adhere to the Codes of Practice / Conduct set out by the National Association of Jewellers, The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers and The British Antique Dealers’ Association.

We are also committed to complying with all applicable legal requirements and other requirements the business subscribes to.

This policy and all subsequent procedures will be reviewed periodically, and the appropriate measures taken, when necessary, to ensure effectiveness.

Whilst responsibility for the implementation of the company’s environmental and social policy is taken personally by the Managing Director, our environmental and social responsibilities are communicated to all those working for or on behalf of Bentley & Skinner. We strongly encourage those working for and on behalf of Bentley & Skinner to promote environmental and social awareness in the business and at home.

It is also the duty of the Managing Director to ensure that the knowledge and understanding of sustainable issues are firmly embedded in the company’s and employee’s culture.
